Proven Leadership. Responsive Representation.
Moving De Pere Forward
Since I was first elected as a write-in candidate in 2017, we have accomplished a lot as a city:
Secured an unprecedented $55 million in federal and state funding for the Brown County Southern Bridge project, with another $50 million that will be requested by Wisconsin DOT in the upcoming state budget.
Resurfaced more than 100 streets, and successfully lobbied Wisconsin DOT to add reconstruction of Main Ave and Reid St (State Hwy 32) back to their list of future projects.
Increased public safety budget by 17% and invested in new police and fire vehicles.
Lowered the property tax mill rate by 13%.
City's market value increased by over $865 million.
Increased balance in the City’s reserve fund by more than 20%.
Added over 400 residential units, including a new subdivision in District 2 by Susie C. Altmayer School.
Issued more than 100 new building permits for manufacturing / commercial development.
Approved a timeline to build a new Legion Pool in 2026 (after I led the effort on the Council to replace the pool at a time when the rest of the Council wanted to permanently close it).
Created a pandemic relief loan program that helped more than 50 De Pere small businesses continue to thrive.
Increased maximum façade grant amounts for downtown businesses.
Negotiated development agreements that paved the way for construction of the Mulva Center and the Cobblestone Hotel.
New basketball court and parking lot at Optimist Park; new playground at Voyageur Park; new tennis/pickleball courts and restroom at Legion Park.
Renovated and expanded the Bomier Boat Launch.
I have also earned the trust of my colleagues, who have chosen me as their city council president and as chair of the Historic Preservation Commission.
Constituent Engagement
I believe that one of the most important responsibilities of an elected official is to proactively keep their constituents up-to-date with the latest developments. That is why I regularly write and hand-deliver newsletters to every home in the district, and have so far distributed nearly 25,000 newsletters.
In addition, I always make sure to promptly respond to all constituent contacts, listen to new ideas, and do my best to work with City staff to respond to any issues that residents are experiencing.
Finally, all elected officials have to take votes that not everyone in the community agrees with, but I always make sure to explains the reasons for why I vote the way I do.
Future Priorities
Here are some of my priorities if elected to a fourth term:
Partner with county, state, and federal officials to secure the remaining funding necessary for the Brown County Southern Bridge Project and complete the entire project by 2029.
Continue to work with Wisconsin DOT to fully reconstruct Main Ave and Reid St (State Hwy 32), including expanding from 3 lanes to 4 lanes near the railroad bridge.
Maintain high quality roads in De Pere.
Lobby state lawmakers to increase shared revenue (revenue that the state government is supposed to return to local governments) so we can further lower the property tax rate and increase services.
Utilize the $1.2 million in leftover funds from the City’s old revolving loan fund to create new programs to support small businesses.
Ensure that the design for the new Legion Pool reflects the wishes of the community.
Continue to facilitate the development of new subdivisions in southern De Pere.
Revitalize the old Shopko site and S. Broadway St between George St and the roundabout.
Further expand De Pere’s industrial parks, including along the newly extended Commerce Dr.
Create incentives to encourage developers to build more affordable housing units.
Allocate funding to replace trees lost due to emerald ash borer.
Ensure that the City Council remains a strong nonpartisan body that focuses on practical solutions, not ideological agendas.
